Wild Ponies of Bodmin Moor
Bodmin Moor is a place of untamed beauty in Cornwall. Bodmin Moor has a rich history that dates back thousands of years, evident in its ancient stone monuments, medieval farmsteads and mining heritage. Among its most iconic inhabitants are the wild ponies, which have roamed the moor for centuries. This project seeks to capture the essence of these mystical ponies, exploring their relationship with the moor and their role in its ecology and cultural history. Within this project, I documented the ponies in their natural environment, highlighting their resilience in a landscape that can be both harsh and comforting. With ever-changing light and weather on Bodmin Moor, I created this piece in monochrome to grasp the detail and emotion of these ponies. By focusing on both close-up portraits and wide-scape landscapes, I hope to convey a narrative of coexistence, where the ponies are not just animals on this landscape but crucial to the moor's character.
